ENERGY SAVINGS
In Fiscal Year 1999, ADLT and its operating company, Venture Lighting, developed Uni-Form® systems, a line of pulse start lamps using a patented formed body arc tube. By creating a quartz tube that is shaped to follow the arc of the light stream, this technology advances the already significant benefits of pulse start lighting. Compared to standard metal halide technology, Uni-Form pulse start systems deliver even more light for less energy, with up to 50 percent improvement in system lumens per watt. Venture’s energy saving ballasts reduce energy loss by over 50 percent. Given the savings potential, the Uni-Form pulse start system is the logical choice for energy-conscious users. One 100 watt pulse start lamp gives the same light as three four foot long, high output fluorescent lamp or give times the lumen output of a 100 watt incandescent lamp. Although high pressure sodium (HPS) lighting produces comparable lumens to pulse start metal halide, its’ yellow-orange light is far inferior to metal halide’s bright white light. Because of this, metal halide is gaining popularity in retrofitting incandescent, fluorescent and HPS lighting systems.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PRODUCTS
In addition to its’ aesthetic qualities, metal halide is good for the environment, too. It uses energy much more sparingly than many other forms of popular lighting. Because most of the world’s energy is generated from nonrenewable fossil fuels, metal halide is a leading technology for conserving these limited resources. Today, the U.S. requires the proper disposal of the small amounts of mercury contained in metal halide lamps. Most states, as well as Canada, prefer that spent lamps are recycled, too. To help in the recycling effort, our lamps use 40% less mercury than their old technology counterparts. We also offer SmartPac™, a free lamp recycling and disposal service for any spent HID lamp. In some instances, like the SmartPac program, recycling is free— the only cost incurred is shipping. Venture Lighting is a member of the Energy Star® Building and Green Lights® Ally Partnership and has set industry standards by conserving scarce, nonrenewable fossil fuels. This partnership greatly lowers electrical demand and significantly reduces the pollutants emitted from the burning of these fuels.
MICROSUN®: QUALITY LIGHT FOR HOME AND LIFE
Research shows that by age 60, the average person requires up to 15 times more light to see as they did when they were 10 years old. It is frustrating and stressful when it takes more effort to complete everyday activities like reading the newspaper, sewing or paying the bills. A suitable quantity and quality of light can help maintain healthy living. Unfortunately, most homes do not have enough lighting fixtures to provide adequate levels of light. With a full spectrum of bright, white light, metal halide offers many advantages to help you see better. Halogen and incandescent lamps are bright enough for the home, but the additional heat they give off is uncomfortable. Metal halide is an effective alternative because it is highly efficient, compact and comfortable, yielding excellent full spectrum white light. Metal halide table and floor lamps are powered by a 127 watt metal halide system that gives the same light as five 75 watt incandescent bulbs or one 300 watt halogen bulb—for virtually no associated heat. The light boxes we manufacture provide 150 watts of bright white light to help improve your well-being. LIGHT TRESPASS
Nighttime lighting helps us to see better and gives us a sense of safety in dark conditions. When outdoor lighting is properly installed, it can also minimize energy usage and operating costs. Poor designs and installations of nighttime lighting can be costly by causing light trespass, glare, energy waste and sky glows that blocks one’s ability to star gaze. What, then, is good lighting? Good lighting provides appropriate levels of shielded illumination so that the light output is focused and controlled. Proper lighting also saves energy by using compatible and correctly installed fixtures with lamps. Using these guidelines will maximize the effectiveness of an outdoor lighting system. ROADWAY
Recent research shows that the color output of the light source has a significant effect on nighttime visibility, important because road accidents occur mostly at night. Also, it is well known that the eye’s response to color depends upon the amount of light available. Metal halide bulbs offer distinct safety advantages with respect to low light levels, especially nighttime vision. Under low light levels (nighttime), our eyes are most sensitive to the blue spectrum, plentiful in metal halide. Under high light levels (daylight), our eyes are more receptive to the yellow spectrum of light that is abundant in HPS. As the day passes and light levels shift, the effectiveness of HPS lighting decreases while the effectiveness for metal halide increases. Therefore, metal halide helps us see better in peripheral viewing and dark areas where hidden hazards may be present. This could make a difference in peripheral viewing and dark areas where hidden dangers may be present. Outdoor lighting with metal halide can play a role in crime prevention, improve the nighttime environment and provide increased sense of safety in parking garages, roadways and other public areas.
SAFETY & SECURITY
Metal halide’s bright light replicates daylight and is whiter than the light produced from high pressure sodium (HPS) systems —an important safety function for color security cameras, which are unable to adequately videotape under HPS lighting. Outdoor parking lot lighting with metal halide can not only play a role in crime prevention, but it also provides an increased sense of safety. Uni-Form® pulse start lamps with a patented formed body arc tube have a color temperature of 4000 Kelvin and a typical cold start time of one to two minutes, two to four minutes for hot restart—an extremely important safety function for parking garage lighting. If there was a brief power interruption in a parking garage with high intensity discharge lights, These lamps will reach full brightness in 60% less time than standard metal halide lamps. The Microsun® wall-mounted security fixture features metal halide technology for residential applications. It illuminates the area directly in front and to the sides of homes for a low level of light in otherwise dark areas. It is uses only 70 watt of energy but gives the light output of nearly five 75 watt incandescent bulbs or one 300 watt halogen light.
